There are some great Mountain Biking Trails in Yellowhead County.

To name a few, Austin’s Dream at Willmore Park, Cougar Ridge at Hinton Bike Park, and the beautiful Bighorn Ridge trails ensure there are tons of places for mountain biking enthusiasts to enjoy!

There are many more great places to mountain bike in the County, and the trails are typically well-maintained by local groups as well as trail building enthusiasts. Don’t hesitate to check it all out!

 

There are two main trails in the Edson area – one that goes north to Silver Summit Ski Hill and another that heads down south to Robb. With the hilly slopes and dense forest in Yellowhead County, snowmobiling is truly at its best.

Yellowhead County boasts some of the best off-road trails in the province.  Whether it be summer or winter, the beauty of the trail is always there and ready for use.  Since its formation, the Edson ATV Club has proven to be very active in trail maintenance, rallies and promotion of off-road quadding. Whether you’ve never golfed before, or are a pro golfer, Pembina Valley Golf Course is one course you can’t refuse to miss. Opened in the early sixties, this nine-hole golf course boasts new greens, a fully licensed clubhouse, power carts and is in the process of installing new tee boxes.

Challenging the rapids or paddling quietly across a lake – you can do both in Yellowhead County. A can’t-miss river is the McLeod. One can hop on the river anyplace – a good spot is Willmore Park, where there’s a little launch. One can go downriver from here to the new bridge by Highway 16. Be sure to have arrangements to be picked-up after your trip.

Another place is the Athabasca River Boat Launch near Brule, west of Hinton and up Highway and almost all the way to Brule. This new launch is perfectly situated to offer a new river-based recreational opportunity that is both safe and convenient to access. 

Designed to accommodate quick access to a slow-moving, low-risk area of the river, the launch also offers a spacious parking lot! Launching at this particular pull-out and disembarking at the Hinton pull-out totals about 1 ½ hour in fast-flowing current, and 2 ½ hours in a slow-flowing current.

There are also lots of lakes all across Yellowhead County that are perfect for launching your canoe or kayak to explore somewhere new every day!

The area surrounding Yellowhead County has numerous sites that are awesome for climbing. A good one to try is just west of Brule – Ogre Canyon. If you like ice-climbing, this is a great spot for this as well! This is also a good intermediate hiking trail.
